There is not only an unpardonable sin in the Bible, there is also an unthinkable sin in the Bible. There is only one kind of sin that is so evil, so wicked, and so unbelievably horrific that the Bible says it never even entered into the mind of God. This is the sin of parents murdering their sons and daughters. The Prophet Jeremiah speaks of this sin three times.”

(From Reformation21.org).”

“For the sons of Judah have done evil in my sight, declares the LORD. They have set their detestable things in the house that is called by my name, to defile it. And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I did not command, nor did it come into my mind” (Jeremiah 7:30-31).

“Because the people have forsaken me and have profaned this place by making offerings in it to other gods whom neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah have known; and because they have filled this place with the blood of innocents, and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, which I did not command or decree, nor did it come into my mind …” (Jeremiah 19:4-5).

“They built the high places of Baal in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to offer up their sons and daughters to Molech, though I did not command them, nor did it enter into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin” (Jeremiah 32:35).

“There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood …” (Proverbs 6:16-17).

The Dangerous Rationalization

It is very common for women to tell me that sin is all the same so abortion is not such a big deal. They also often deflect what they are doing by asking if I sin, and if so, I have no right to judge them. This is not true, and twisting what scripture actually says.

We Are to Judge

First, we ARE called to judge, but not to judge hypocritically and not to condemn. We ARE called to judge right from wrong, or it would be impossible to be light to the world. We have the Holy Spirit in us if we have submitted our lives to the Lord. He is the one who will guide us in all righteousness, give us discernment, and equip us to confront sin.

All Sin is Not the Same

Second, all sin is NOT the same. Jesus Himself declares that after being arrested and turned over to Herod. He says the one who handed him over is “guilty of the greater sin.” There is also an unpardonable sin, the very worst sin of all. While there is some controversy over what exactly that sin is, it is clear that there are all but one sin that can be pardoned, thus obviously lesser sins.

The Heinous Sin of Murder

Throughout time, the most heinous sin is the murder of innocent people. God is clear that He hates the hands that shed innocent blood, and the 6th commandment is “thou shall not murder.” But there is only one sin that Scripture describes as unimaginable. As the verses quoted above in Jeremiah indicate, the sacrifice of innocent children to idols or false gods is so reprehensible that God says, “It never entered my mind.” That unimaginable sin is not JUST murder. It is murder of innocent babies by their parents.

The Unimaginable Sin

This sin is so horrific because the murder is perpetrated by the very people that God has specifically designed to nurture and protect those little ones … their parents. Every aspect of a mother is designed to love, nurture and protect her baby. All the hormones surging through her body are to sustain the child’s life. The womb with the amazing changes that occur in the lining and blood supply is designed to protect the growing baby. All the normal instincts of the mother are designed to love and care for her baby. It is an aberration, and God calls it an abomination, for a mother to disregard the safety and well-being of her baby. The mother-child bond is the single universal relationship all human beings share. It cannot be severed without repercussion.

Similarly, fathers are stronger and larger than women with a divine purpose. They are designed by God to protect and provide for their family. For fathers to abdicate that role and be complicit in destroying a member of their family disrupts not only the fabric of a family but of a society.

A Demonic Plan

Satan is a wily adversary. He knows that by destroying these critical human bonds, he is destroying the family. It was God who instituted the family. Satan is attacking God’s perfect method of providing safety, and a flourishing community of humankind.

The Ancient Call of the Israelites to Annihilate This Hideous Sin

The greatest evil of the pagan nations was child sacrifice. God called the Israelites to be His chosen people by which He would save the world. He called them to do so not because they were numerous or sinless. They were a small group; however, He instilled in them the warning not to behave as the nations around them, serving false idols and sacrificing their children to false gods. They were not to engage in the abominable practice of child sacrifice. The nations that were wiped out as the Israelites took over the promised land were nations that engaged in this unimaginable sin.

Modern Day Child Sacrifice

Abortion is modern day child sacrifice to false idols. The overwhelming majority of abortions occur in women who are unmarried, and the rationale for the abortion is overwhelming due to concerns about economics, the timing of the pregnancy, and the inconvenience to their lives.

While some situations women face ARE dire, they are not justification to murder their own babies. If they absolutely cannot parent, there are countless couples eager and waiting to adopt. If the women face medical high risk pregnancies, high risk doctors can overwhelmingly manage and reduce the risk. If the circumstances of the conception of the child are not good or desired (such as rape or incest), the child is an innocent victim and should not be the one who is punished for those sins.

The Solution

The church is called to be the hands and feet of Jesus. The Love Life model is based upon this understanding. Women in vulnerable pregnancies should be helped. Couples should be counseled from a biblical, life-affirming focus. Women and men who have been involved in abortion should find healing and restoration in the Church. Pastors should be warning and speaking openly about the evil of abortion, and vocal about the life styles that contribute to abortion and dishonor God. A culture of life must be promoted. The Gospel must be faithfully shared as it alone can change hearts and souls.
