Count on it. Satan WILL attack at some point when you make the brave decision to speak for the unborn at the last ditch place where that innocent life will live or die. Many sidewalk counselor volunteers report feeling they hit a wall of evil as they turn onto the street of the abortion center. The sense of evil is palpable. If we could see into the spiritual realm, we would see the battle lines drawn, the enemy forces preparing to join battle against God’s angelic army. I imagine it would be a terrifying sight.
What we experience in the physical realm will sometimes be subtle and pesky. The dog will vomit all over the white carpet five minutes before we are to hop in the car to leave for the abortion center sidewalk. The kid will spike an inexplicable fever. The AC will suddenly die on the hottest day of the year. A headache will develop that only increases as the time to depart creeps closer. The family members will bicker and fight. The list is endless but they will accelerate on days of service to God. Guaranteed.
Sometimes the battle is evidenced in very serious ways. Serious illnesses. Serious relationship fractures. Serious financial catastrophe. Serious disastrous news.
DO NOT give up despite these dire truths. If you do, Satan wins. I hate him too much and love God too much to let Satan have the victory.
“If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31
“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4
“In this world you will have troubles, but take heart, I have overcome the world.” John 6:33
““Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”” Luke 22:31-32
God wins. We can trust that if we are in the Lord, we WILL stand against the slings and arrows of the enemy. But we must take the battle seriously. Our adversary is powerful. He is just NOT as powerful as God.
First, always put on the full armor of God as described in Ephesians 6.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
In essence, speak and know truth, know, speak, and live the righteousness of God, know and proclaim the Gospel, walk in faith, be secure in your salvation, know and live God’s word, and pray without ceasing.
That is how I prepare each morning before heading out to the abortion center, and honestly every day. We cannot share what we do not possess. We must sit at the feet of Jesus for extended periods, reading the Bible, meditating on it, memorizing it, and applying it. We need extended periods of prayer and supplication before God. We need to ask others to be in prayer for us as we head to battle for the Lord.
Different scriptures enable me at different times to meet different challenges. I don’t have one favorite. The word of God is living, and meets us with specific aid in the specific areas we will need it. I have found this to be true over and over again. Trust that the Holy Spirit will guide and direct and protect you as you enter the spiritual realm of darkness surrounding the abortion center. His light will pierce that darkness. His victory is secured when you present yourself before Him and say, “Here am I. Use me, Lord.”
